This tutorial, I will present how to create a Happy New Year holiday Card in Photoshop. This card is very simple with colorful digits. I wish you like it and enjoy this tutorial. So, let’s have a try.
Start working by creating a new document (Ctrl+N) in Adobe Photoshop CS6 with the size 1000px by 1000px(RGB color mode) at a resolution of 72 pixels/inch. Click on Add a layer style icon from bottom part of theLayers panel and select Gradient Overlay.
Click in the color bar to open the Gradient Editor and set the color stops as shown. Click OK to close theGradient Editor dialog box.
We’ve got the next background:
Insert the message text for greeting card. Select the Horizontal Type tool (T). Select a font, size and color in the Character panel.
Click in the canvas and type ’2013′. Press Enter to apply the text.
Click on Add a layer style icon from bottom part of the Layers panel and select Drop Shadow.
We’ve got the next result:
Next we’ll introduce the numbers of the year. Each number must be situated on a separate layer. The layers containing the numbers must be rasterized (in this case select the layer containing the number in Layes panel, right click and to Rasterize). Place the layers with the numbers under the very first text’s layer on the Layers panel.
Apply on each layer containing the number the next filter: Filter > Blur > Motion blur.
We’ve got the next result:
Insert the mask on each layer with separate number by choosing Add layer mask on the bottom part of theLayers panel and choose the Hard Round brush of black color.
Paint in the masks using this brush to clean very smoothly the unnecessary blur of Motion blur filter.
Make a copy of the very first layer containing the 2013 numbers and place it above all the layers. Select the Free Transform (Ctrl+T) command and move it a little the same way from the next picture.
Click on Add a layer style icon from bottom part of the Layers panel and select Gradient Overlay.
Click in the color bar to open the Gradient Editor and set the color stops as shown. Click OK to close theGradient Editor dialog box.
We’ve got the next result:
Take the Line Tool (U) to represent many parallel lines of different colors and of different weight.
Combine in a group all the lines’ layers (press CTRL button to select the necessary layers and hold on the left mouse’s button while dragging the selected layers on Create a new group icon from bottom part of the Layers panel). Using the Free Transform (Ctrl+T) command, let’s incline the lines’ group the same way demonstrated below:
Make sure that the lines’ group are active in Layers panel, hold on the CTRL button and click on the top layer containing 2013 numbers in Layers panel to get the next selection:
Insert the mask on the lines’ group by choosing Add layer mask on the bottom part of the Layers panel .
Choose the Hard Round brush of black color.
Paint in the mask containing the lines’ group using this brush to hide the lines on the number ’0′.
Next insert number ’0′ in a separate layer using Horizontal Type tool (T).
Click on Add a layer style icon from bottom part of the Layers panel and select Gradient Overlay.
Click in the color bar to open the Gradient Editor and set the color stops as shown. Click OK to close theGradient Editor dialog box.
We’ve got the next result:
